PAYROLL TAX CUT EXTENDED FOR TWO MONTHS

The Temporary Payroll Tax Cut Continuation Act of 2011, enacted on December 23, continues the social security tax rate paid by employees in 2011 (4.2%) for wages paid in the first two months of 2012. Expiring on December 31, however, were increased adoption assistance benefits and parity for mass transit benefits, which were not continued. Pub. L. No. 112-78.

SOCIAL SECURITY WAGE BASE INCREASED

The Social Security Administration (SSA) announced on Wednesday, October 19, 2011, that the 2012 social security wage base for 2012 will be $110,100, up from $106,800 where it has been set for the past three years.

PENSION PLAN LIMITS INCREASE FOR 2012

The IRS has announced the cost-of-living adjustments applicable to dollar limits on benefits and contributions under qualified retirement plans, as well as other items, for tax year 2012.
